redefine a vibrant local center
URBAN DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE DESIGN
2018
This project is an international competition and is completed by an equally international team (each member is from a different country 🇩🇰🇸🇪🇨🇦🇵🇱🇨🇳). It exposed me to various modes of visual communication: hand sketching, graphics, rendering, and VR, all of which I acquired during this tremendously enjoyable journey.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Christie Cookie (as the site is called) aims to develop a new center in Toronto's Humber Bay area. It promises a green, natural community that is vibrant, lively, safe, and pedestrian-friendly while meeting the daily needs of a growing area. The site’s redevelopment will lead Toronto’s urban design and demonstrate the city’s commitment to the environment, visitors, and residents.
DEFINE PROBLEM
The project site is located south of Toronto, Canada. The unique site allows the area to become a gateway to Toronto, a landmark that is novel and immediately identifiable. It is backed by the highway and faces Lake Ontario in the east.
The main problems of the project are the noise from the highway and the cold airflow from the northwest in winter.
SOLVE PROBLEM, CREATE LIVELY CITY
In order to solve the problems of traffic noise and cold wind, and at the same time create a lively city with more sunshine, better views, greener landscape, and more convenient transportation, we propose the following 6 design strategies.
A TYPICAL DAY
According to demographic analysis, the community aims to attract a target group consisting of young, highly-skilled talents, young couples, and newly married couples (whether with or without children).
Guided by these user personas, we have developed six scenarios featuring various activities unfolding across different spaces of the community, collectively representing a typical day at Christie Cookie.
VR TOUR
To provide clients with a more immersive experience that allows them to perceive the quality of the space, I took on the responsibility of creating this VR tour. It will guide you through three distinct locations at Christie Cookie.
TAKE AWAY
Given that the project is named "Christie Cookie," we've taken steps to seamlessly blend into this theme. In addition to the daily tasks of designing "cookies," we also bake cookies and eat cookies, trying to immerse ourselves in all things cookie related.
Working alongside a team of individuals equally passionate about their work has been an absolute delight!
